All about Kaftan's/Caftan's :)

Hey guys ;)..... how have you all been ! I am sure much better after seeing my new blog ..hahaha :P

This blog story is my own inspiration, as I was born and brought up in Middle east (Kuwait), all I saw were these beautiful kaftan dresses worn by the most beautiful women (Arab Females) around me . They do wear other stuff as well like jeans , top ,dresses. But Kaftan's just always blew my mind away..!

Kaftans are worn in many parts of the world where islam has spread , particularly in North and West Africa , eventually over time the style has taken a hold in Western culture too, Kaftans have become part of the international fashion by mid 20th Century.

Kaftans have made a huge comeback onto the fashion scene in recent years, traditional Kaftans is referred to a mid/long length lose fitted garment with long /short sleeves worn by both men/women. The beauty of kaftan is how easy and free it falls on the body making you look elegant yet classy.

Kaftan dresses can be worn for both formal and casual occasions, and the styling opportunities are endless. They suit all age groups and women with all sizes and shape, depending on the style you choose and help you cover any bit of flab that you don't wish to accentuate.

Different style of Kaftans are worn on different Occasions, like Beachwear kaftan , Evening outing kaftan, Casual wear kaftans - Dress/Tops/shrugs.

Beach Wear Kaftans : One of the trending kaftan style now a days is to coverup on the beach , its mostly light weighted preferably cotton fabric accessorised with right type and amount of accessories with your swim wear. The beach wear kaftan is lose and keeps oneself really cool on those hot days on the beach.

My Look : Kaftan Beach wear dress - Cotton fabric - very soft and light weight , paired with white beaded neckpiece and a white stoned black flat wear , perfect for a sunny outing on the beach and off course my love ( Michael Kors - RoseGold watch).

Evening Wear Kaftan (Party kaftan) : Love glitter and minute details , then this kaftan type is meant for you , they are long/floor length, beautifully embroidered or embellished kaftans which comes in silk,velvet,chiffon fabric. Apt accessories and a perfect pair of heels and you are all set to shine ;)

Not my look - Yet to buy a perfect kaftan for an cocktail party, hopefully soon (Feeling Sad :( ,) , the below images are from Pinterest to give you all the feel of a perfect evening wear kaftan.

Casual Wear Kaftan Tops/Shrugs : There are closed and open type of Kaftan tops/shrugs and comes in mid to short length, to be paired with skinny jeans or shorts.

My Look: Casual Kaftan Shrug - Cotton fabric - very soft and light weight, paired with my sassy black dress from H&M, Forever21 block heels and of course my love (Michael Kors - RoseGold watch) :p .

I kept it simple for an afternoon outing to a coffee shop .(You can wear a Choker if you like)

Casual Wear Kaftan Dresses: They are more of Mid to short length, perfect for an casual outing with family and friends.

My Look : Beautiful multi stripe kaftan , cotton fabric from one of a local designer store in Kuwait. i kept it simple with no accessories as the kaftan had the silver rope detailing around the neck. Paired with my white stone black flats.

Important factors to keep in mind while planning to wear a kaftan :

Fabric plays a key role! While selecting your type of fabric , ensure to pay attention on such small but important detail , which occasion you plan to wear it, as each occasion demand different fabric; for instance - if you plan to wear kaftan on a sunny day ensure you buy a cotton or silk fabric as they help to absorb sweat and keep your body cool through out. On the other hand for an evening party go for satin, georgette, silk, rayon type of fabric.

The second important factor to pay attention is on the Length of the kaftan, for a casual outing, you can wear a mid length kaftan and carry it off like a dress or a short length kaftan top/shrug with a pair of slim fit jeans or short . For family/cocktail functions definitely long length with some embellishments will do wonders.

How can we forget shoes, different kaftan demands different pair of shoes to go along . Stilettos or a perfect heels goes well with a floor length kaftan (color of the heels depends upon the kaftan color - to be safe go for gold or silver depending on the color of bling in your kaftan) to complete the look .

Trendy Flats goes well with mid length dresses or top style kaftans. One can wear heels as well. IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR COMFORT.

For a printed kaftan, it is best to complete your look with a pair of nude heels.

Finally Jewellery , to look glamours and classy match simple jewels with beach wear or casual kaftan, too heavy jewels might make it look over-the-board for a normal or chilling outing. Keep it simple and classy!

While embellished kaftans are already so bling I suggest to go minimal on jewels and be careful while picking the right one. One can go for heavy earrings instead of a neckpiece. Girls who like to experiment with their look can go for Maang Teeka. (Indian Jewellery style). For a plain kaftan a neck piece is a necessity to look more glamours.
